Mycotoxins are toxins produced by fungi. They can be found in food, feed, and indoors.
There are about 120 toxin producing fungi known, typical producing species are Aspergillus, Fusarium, and Penicillium.
Mycotoxin poisoning typically results in Liver Cancer and as a result limits are regulated in food in over 100 countries worldwide.

In general a Representative Sample is Homogenised and an extraction procedure is performed to produce a liquid extract containing the mycotoxins.
The Mycotoxins are then passed through an Immumo Affinity Column to Isolate and Clean up the Mycotoxins from the extract.Immumo affinity Antibodies bound within the SPE Cartridge selectively bind to the Mycotoxins.

An elution solvent then selectively elutes the Mycotoxins.
Finally the sample is injected on a HPLC System with Fluorescence or Mass Spetrometer detector.
Aflatoxin B2 and G2 are naturally Fluorescing and can be detected using a Fluorescence detector.Aflatoxin B1 and G1 are only partially Fluorescent. These need to be detected using a Mass Spectrometer, or require post column derivatisation using Bromine or Phochemical Reactor to enable quantitation.
LC Tech produces Immuno Affinity Cartridges for the Clean up of:

LC Tech also provide a highly efficient HPLC column and methodology to analyse Aflatoxins within 10 minutes.
